About Pierborne
Pierborne was created to assist engineers, architects, contractors, and lighting designers in maintaining architectural design integrity while achieving UL924 code compliance. We provide battery backup solutions to establish a compliant emergency path of egress in the event of a power outage.
Rely on Pierborne’s team to be the technical guide for the specifier. Just mark the light types you would like to be EM and we can help you select the right sized Pierborne Inverter.
Or just write, “Inverter by Pierborne” on the drawings and we will handle the rest.
What is an Inverter?
The Pierborne Emergency Power Vault is a UL924 listed battery backup system that provides back up power during electrical outages by converting DC power (from the batteries) to AC power that can used to operate any 120/277-volt device or fixture. UL924 is the standard for Safety of Emergency Lighting and Power Equipment. For emergency lighting to meet UL 924 standards, the light fixture must provide illumination for at least 90 minutes in the event of power failure due to an emergency or other power failure situation.
About the Emergency Power Vault
Reliable Backup Power
Pierborne’s Emergency Power Vaults (EMPV) are designed to backup any 120 volt or 277-volt device and/or fixture. Our lineup can provide from 20 to 1,150 watts for 90 minutes of emergency power to the connected load, meeting UL 924 requirements. Upon failure of normal utility power, our Emergency Power Vaults are instantly turned on by a solid-state switching circuit and lumen output will be maintained to 100% of the fixture’s rated output throughout the 90-minute duration.
Flexible Installation
Each EMPV system’s sinusoidal AC output design eliminates voltage drops and proximity concerns. This allows added flexibility in installation locations as each EMPV unit can be installed up to 1,000 feet from the units they are wired to power. Therefore, each unit can be located conveniently out of sight in closets or utility rooms without interrupting architectural aesthetics.
Streamlined Emergency Lighting
In lighting applications, additional emergency fixtures, emergency ballasts or individual emergency backup in the ceiling are no longer necessary. Simply designate and connect existing lighting fixtures (interior or exterior) to the EMPV unit for emergency operations, eliminating the need for exposed, stand-alone emergency fixtures.

Mini Series
From 20W to 55W
Pierborne’s Emergency Power Vaults are designed to back up any 120 volt or 277-volt device or fixture that needs to operate during power failure. The EMPV Mini can provide 20 to 55 watts for 90 minutes, meeting UL 924 requirements.
Each unit is equipped with one (1) line voltage bypass so that each fixture can be turned on or off during normal power. Upon failure, the normal power fixture will automatically return to full output no matter the position of the switch, dimmer, time clock, or line voltage device.
Pro Series
110W & 220W
The Pierborne Pro Series is also designed to back up any 120 volt or 277-volt device or fixture that needs to operate during power failure. The EMPV Pro can provide 110 or 220 watts for 90 minutes, meeting UL 924 requirements.
Each unit is equipped with one (1) line voltage bypass, which can be upgraded to a four (4) line voltage bypass by adding the 4C Option (four circuit output).

Expert Series
From 375W to 1150W
EMPV Expert Series can back up any 120V or 277V device or fixture that needs to operate during a power failure. The Expert Series can provide 375W to 1,150W for 90 minutes, meeting UL924 requirements. Each unit is equipped with one (1) line voltage bypass, which can be upgraded to a four (4) line voltage bypass (the 4 Circuit Option).
Choose one (1) or two (2) output breakers for the 375W & 600W models and one (1) to six (6) output breakers for the 750W, 950W & 1,150W units.
FlexDim
Pro Series & Expert Series
The FlexDim Option is available on Pro inverter models with 110 and 220 watt capacity ratings. This option provides two (2) user-adjustable emergency output circuits and eliminates the need for bypass devices on 0-10V dimmer controller fixtures.
The FlexDim Option is available on Expert inverter models with 375 to 1,150 watt capacity ratings. This option provides four (4) user-adjustable emergency output circuits and eliminates the need for up to four (4) bypass devises on 0-10V dimmer controlled fixtures.
